Let's begin with an overview of the process and then I will follow this up with a deeper look into each of these steps.
Psychologists Don Kelley and Daryl Conner have established a cycle they call “The Emotional Cycle of Change.” In it, they identify five stages that people go through as they make major changes in their life:
Stage 1: Uninformed optimism.
Stage 2: Informed pessimism.
Stage 3: Hopeful realism.
Stage 4: Informed optimism.
Stage 5: Completion.
If you take a moment and think about a change that you have made perhaps this pattens rings true with you?
